David Gusakov

Violin, Fiddle

David Gusakov arrived in Vermont in the mid-seventies and has devoted his life full-time to music here ever since. His 50 years (and counting) with the Vermont Symphony have included 35 years as a member of Fiddlesticks!, a string trio presenting programs to elementary schools throughout the state as well as chamber music concerts with a variety of ensembles.

In the non-classical world, David was a member of Pine Island (bluegrass and swing music), Banjo Dan and the Midnite Plowboys (traditional bluegrass and originals), and currently performs with Swing Noire (Parisian jazz), Will Patton Ensemble (jazz and Brazilian), Daddy Longlegs (contemporary folk),  Last Train to Zinkov, a duo with Nate Gusakov (klezmer, originals, eclectic) and The Barncasters, a new quintet with sons Nate and Will, Jimmy Carroll and Colin Gunn (folk, rock, blues, etc.)

On stage he has appeared in small groups with Smokey Robinson, John Denver, Jean Redpath (Scottish folksinger at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart series), Peter Rowan, and briefly with Vassar Clements and Emmylou Harris.

David loves teaching all styles and genres of music and has maintained an active teaching studio in Bristol since 1980. Music is the love of his life and he looks forward to joining with everyone at MCMC!
