Hearing music as a kid. Hearing older family members playing an
instrument and talking about music. Realizing some of your earliest
memories have music as part of them.
Having a first favorite song. And then another favorite song. And
then realizing that was going to keep happening.
Listening to music on the school bus and at night before bed and any
other time possible.
Starting to take lessons on an instrument.
Learning about different genres and chords and tempos and
combinations of instruments, and how they made you feel.
Being able to figure out parts of a popular song and play them.
Sharing a great song with other people because you couldn't not
share it.
Performing at a recital and being terrified and actually getting
through it pretty well.
Making a recording or mixtape, and giving it to someone you cared
about, and really hoping they liked it.
Playing music with other people for the first time.
Writing your first song.
Hearing music you recorded for the first time.
Playing onstage for the first time.
Realizing something musical you were doing was actually pretty good,
and that your focus and passion and effort had turned into
something.
Having musical dreams that shape themselves and become part of you
and inform who you are and the choices you make.
Having other people tell you your music moved or helped or inspired
them in some way.
All because you started learning about music.
The house of music has endless rooms, for everyone. MCMC lit a new
path to that house. I'm honored to serve on the board.
