Synth Lessons

Synth Lessons

Group class dates for 2024-25

Instructor: Adam Schatz

This class starts from the ground up, learning about wave shapes, harmonics and the overtone series and how understanding the guts of a synthesizer can teach us more about how we hear and think about music, recording, and the world around us. Piece by piece we’ll learn how a synthesizer works, using the Cherry Audio Voltage Modular software (everyone working and following along on their own laptops), and then moving onto the Behringer Model D hardware synths.

There is a lot of joy to be found in taking ideas that seem abstract at first and connecting them to the real world, that can be helpful for practical use and wild exploration. Synthesis is a brilliant doorway into that activity.
